Congratulations to the Philippine team who organized the event!

We all know the inconvenience it brought to the traffic and to the cancelled flights.

Yes, they could have prepared better for this like holding the meeting off island like the other host countries did in the past years. But our country decided to do it this way… their way.

Still, we cannot discount the effort, the sleepless nights, and the anxieties of the organizing team. I know because I worked for an events company for a year. It’s no mean feat.

Here’s to looking forward to fruitful economic cooperation with the APEC member economies!

Cheers!

Experience Magical Ice Festival at the Big Dome

It’s Christmas time, and there is already excitement in the air. Family and kids have been awaiting the return of the all-time Filipino favorite show, the Disney On Ice at the Big Dome.

There is much to look forward to in this year’s show. Aside from world-class skaters who make up its talented ensemble, Disney On Ice presents Magical Ice Festival will be featuring Disney’s Academy Award® winning and number one animated feature film of all time, Frozen. This and the other three Disney royal adventures!

Disney on Ice - Elsa and Anna, Frozen

“This year’s Disney On Ice is truly magical with Disney properties that are packed with heart and personality. We have princesses that are exuberant and strong-willed, but we’ve also expanded the roles of spirited supporting characters, so that they’re more prominent in the show,” says Producer Nicole Feld.

For the first time on ice, watch your favorite Disney stars Anna and Elsa, together with hilarious snowman Olaf, rugged mountain man Kristoff and his loyal reindeer Sven in a magical winter adventure.

“The most exciting part of bringing characters like Anna and Elsa to the ice for the first time is knowing that they have a powerful and inspiring message that resonates with audiences as the sisters discover the true meaning of love,” says producer Nicole Feld.

Audiences will also enjoy comical segments with captivating stories of princesses Ariel, Rapunzel and Belle in a new twist of fairy-tale fun featuring Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Tangled, and Beauty and the Beast.

Disney on Ice - Rapunzel, Tangled

“By pulling together moments from classic Disney stories to the newest feature film sensation Frozen and combining them with elements of comedy and music, we developed a truly unique way to re-tell each fairy tale,” says Producer Juliette Feld.

Disney's Donald Duck, Fabs, Goofy, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse

Dazzling costume designs, spectacular set elements, and jaw-dropping stunts are also what make this year’s show even more exhilarating.

In Beauty and the Beast’s “Be Our Guest,” the theatrical elements of the glitzy napkins and silverware costumes will astound audiences. “The costumes are designed to emphasize the overwhelming amount of table décor that appears in the movie. The napkins unfold to increase their size and the forks tower over the heads of the performers. This is a big moment for Belle; the costumes need to reflect that,” says Costume Designer Cynthia Nordstrom.

Moreover, lighting plays a crucial role in giving the overall production a truly magical feel.
“The colors really pull you into the different worlds of the princesses, but it’s how the lights are arranged that command your attention when the characters are performing their acts. For example, when the Daughters of Triton are introduced, the lighting individually highlights each of them. Your eyes follow the spotlights,” says Lighting Designer Sam Doty.

Experience Magical Ice Festival at the Big Dome from December 25 to January 3 and don’t miss the chance to see your favorite Disney stars LIVE!

Metro Manila Standstill

NCR road advisory for APEC leaders’ meet. More road advisories here http://apec2015.ph/2015/10/27/apec-aelm-road-advisories/

Metro Manila, or even NCR, is now preparing for a one-week standstill. No, it’s not because of a Manny Pacquaio boxing match. It’s not even because of an AlDub Nation activity.

The country will host the most high-profile event, the APEC Leaders’ Meeting. Here’s the Primer. The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation 21-member economies will gather here in the Philippines. Top leaders, senior officials, top businessmen and industry experts will meet and discuss about three main items namely trade and investment liberalization, business facilitation, economic and technical cooperation (Ecotech).

It is an important event for the member economies, as it is for the country.

But why the standstill?

Classes in all levels in the National Capital Region (NCR) are called off, government offices and public services, airline flights flying out and flying in to Manila are cancelled for one week from November 16 to November 20. Private offices, including banks, will be closed for business for two days, November 18-19. Road closures/reroutes have been set up.

The city does not only go on a standstill, business is also shut down.

In my sons’ school, they did away with their original schedule of semestral break and would just take the break during the APEC week. But because of the disruption of flight and business skeds, we cannot do anything much.

I wonder how the airlines would fare with all the flights cancelled; how the banks will do it without any transaction for two days; how we will cope with further delays in our public services.

If we are to be concerned of appearances, I wonder how it would look to the world that our country cannot host an important meeting without sending its people and businesses to sleep BECAUSE of lack of foresight and planning.
