Mommy Bloggers & Nutri10Plus Share the Love with Kids in Marawi

The Nutri10Plus Syrup Vitamin Blog Campaign

Mothers have a huge capacity to love and provide for their loved ones—and this often extends to people outside of family. So, when you involve mommies to collaborate for a cause, for sure, they’ll be on top of it.

That’s what happened in the collaboration with Werp and mommy bloggers.

In the effort to help our co-mommies and their children in the war-stricken village in Marawi, 100 Mommy bloggers from Mommy Bloggers Philippines community had collaborated to bring boxes of Nutri10Plus Syrup, DayCee Vitamin C Syrup and several toys, to a hundred kids in Marawi through SinagTala, a non-profit organization headed by Ms. Kaye Koo. SinagTala had been sending help to villages in Marawi since the war erupted and it had sheltered hundreds of children inside the Playroom which served as the mini-school and play area of the children.

Modern-Day Heroes

Today is National Heroes Day here in the country. It is also the day of protest against PDAF (Priority Development Assistant Fund), also known as pork barrel. Dubbed as a Million People March, people trooped to Luneta park to cry to abolish pork barrel. The protest is fueled by the pork barrel scam, where it was found out that some senators and congressmen have allegedly been squandering their PDAF.

These lawmakers made us believe that  they are using the PDAF in legitimate ways only to find out that they are actually donating it to NGOs they themselves own or to fake NGOs. You know of course what this means.

If you were one of those who support this march, I salute you. It is high time that we paid attention to how our public funds were being used.

PDAF in principle is good. After all, the funds were intended to support development projects in the provinces. We should have started being wary about it when we knew that these funds are not subject to audit. Or better yet, when PDAF was started to be called pork barrel, which in technical terms refers to legislative control of local appropriations.

How did PDAF or pork barrel came about? I thought it started with the Marcos regime. But little research told me that it started during Cory Aguino’s leadership. It started out as country development fund (CDF). Read more about its evolution HERE.

Call it apropos that today, National Heroes is also the day of protest. It has become even more relevant because who are considered victims of this Pork Barrel Scam are the modern-day heroes.

Who are the modern-day heroes?

  • Folks who work hard to earn a living and apportion a huge part of their earnings to the government through taxation.
  • Folks who are helping run the economy by spending.
  • Folks who leave homes and families to earn a living overseas and invest/spend their earnings here in the country.
  • Folks who work for a real cause, or supporting a legit advocacy.
  • Folks who work for the improvement of the lives of the majority without the photo opps and publicity.
  • Folks who inspire others to do good.
Who are your modern-day heroes?

Pizza Hut Book It!

I am big on education, especially literacy. If we all are literate, then we won’t have the kind of  elected officials that we have now. If the surveys are to be  believed, just imagine how Erap even figured on the list as one of the leading candidates for presidency in the 2010 Elections. But that’s another story.

Let me go back to a much worthy news, the Pizza Hut Book It! program.

I went to their website, and what I saw were great opportunities to help build literacy. There are programs for school administrators, teachers, and parents. It’s cool.

The latest news says that Pizza Hut Book It! donates books to  Kids Foundation.

Recently, Pizza Hut’s Book It! Program showed these out of school children that Pizza Hut cares by granting some of their wishes to enable them to go back to school this year.

Pizza Hut Book It! Program, in partnership with the Department of Education, collaborated with National Book Store Foundation Inc. and donated school bags with study packs and reading books to KIDS Foundation for its upcoming event this July and September dubbed “TREK,” which will benefit far-flung public schools in the Philippines.
