Going Back to Baguio for the Panagbenga 2016

When my sister-in-law invited me to go with her to Bagiuo and see Panagbenga, I got really excited. We both were, actually. I can’t remember which year I went the first time, but I remember big floats with beautiful fresh flowers parading down Session Road, which was packed with tourists.

With that in mind, off we went!

Cool breeze welcomed us when we reached Baguio around 7PM, Friday, February .

Hungry and tired (I was working on my lappy during the whole trip; good thing I didn’t feel dizzy at all!), we just dropped our bags at Tulip Apartelle (which deserves a separate blog post) and headed out to grab dinner. We ended up at Rose Bowl Chinese Restaurant and yes it was a cold night but we still had our pure and fresh strawberry shake. Ha ha!

The activity on Session Road for Saturday was street dancing. We wanted to watch but we couldn’t get a good vantage point even if we were already in Zola Café. All the verandas of the café and tables by the windows were reserved and paid for!

So, we just watched the program on TV there. Ha ha! We went up to Baguio to watch the festivities on TV. Hilarious! The waiter was nice though because he volunteered to take a few photos but they were in my SIL’s iPad and wasn’t able to get a copy. I just observed that the dancers were sparse, though.

For Sunday, we really reserved a spot by the window to see the floats of the Panagbenga parade. Even though I was running a high fever (due to the cold, perhaps), I still got up and witnessed the most-awaited parade of floats made of fresh flowers.

To our surprise, there were only few floats, and few major companies who joined. The parade started around 8ish in the morning, and it ended a little past 10am. Rather a short for a major event. To be honest, not quite what I expected. I guess I miss the grand floats in the early years.

Although, a bit disappointed by the parade, still we enjoyed our Baguio trip. We didn’t go to the usual places anymore as we have seen those in the past trips there. Being both accessories obsessed, my SIL and I just scoured the shops selling silver ware and we got ourselves some, of course! Ha ha!

This 4th time that I visited Baguio, I just noticed that the city is less green, not as clean, not as well put together. I hope when go back, I will smell again the pine trees, see more green, and be comfortably embraced  by the cool, chilly wind.
